– Ed Thomas
Ed Thomas, who has contracted with Bestwork as Director of Operations since 2019, assumes the role of Director of Non-Textile Operations to help facilitate Bestwork’s greater expansion into non-textile products and knowledge-based services.
Ed earned his B.A. in Economics from North Carolina State University and promptly entered the workforce as an industrial engineer. He worked for “cut and sew” operations up and down the Eastern Seaboard as well as at offshore facilities. Ed further built his operational experience as a manager and executive for brands such as Fruit of the Loom and Hanes.
At Bestwork, Ed has continued to find ways to make himself indispensable, overseeing Product Lifecycle Management systems from discovery to implementation. Ed loves data. He delights in identifying Key Performance Indicators, conducting Direct Labor Time Studies, Process Documentation – basically any kind of methodology that will inform how to be more efficient, reduce costs, increase quality and on-time shipping, and convert a job previously done by a sighted person to one that a person who is blind or visually impaired can do.
While Ed loves metrics, he is also equal parts creative. The engineer is a master 3D printer designer, creating custom designs used in-house by colleagues who are blind and visually impaired.
