When Ernest Oglesby worked for Campbell Soup after graduating high school, he was hit in the eye while playing basketball. This triggered trips to various doctors, where it was discovered that Ernie was losing his sight. Although at times he felt like curling up in the corner, he was inspired by his mother and his faith to carry on. Today, he is the one who inspires others.
“Ernie is an excellent employee and has a positive impact on everyone here,” says Belinda Moore, President & CEO of Bestwork Industries. “He encourages his coworkers to give their best and be their best.”
He began his career with Bestwork back in 1987, but took some time off to run a successful concession stand in Camden. He had various locations, including 4th and Market, City Hall, the State Building at Haddon Ave, and the Hall of Justice at 5th and MLK Blvd. Ernie rejoined Bestwork in 2007 and has been a great motivation to his colleagues for the last 10 years. He enjoys his job on the fleece line and credits Bestwork Industries for believing that people who are blind or visually impaired could excel in the manufacturing arena.
Ernie was named Employee of the Year in 2012. He was touched almost beyond words that his fellow employees would vote for him. “We have each other’s backs,” he says. “We’re like family.”
